Friend Friday: Blogtronics

Okay so I made up the term Blogtronics, but it fit the topic for this weeks Friend Friday post sponsored by Katy Rose of Modly Chic, which I must admit by the way it has been sometime since I've participated but here's to a new year and better planning. Now as you know just to give a brief recap of Friend Friday every week Katy sends out a set of questions to various bloggers we then answer those questions and post them on our blogs every Friday hence Friend Friday, it's not only fun but also a great way to network and connect with fellow bloggers. So now that we've got that out of the way here are the questions for the week.

tech hand

1. What technology do you use in blogging? (computer, camera, video camera, tripod, etc...)

I’m using my Laptop, Hp digital camera, and as of late my blackberry for those snap shots when I forget to bring my camera.

2. What computer and online technology do you use? (blogging system, photo storage, photo editing tools, etc..) Right now I’m using my Dell Inspiron\E1705 and I also have a Macbook that I have yet to use. For my blog I use Blogger and to write out my blogs I use Windows Live Writer which I love. For photo editing I recently tried Fotoflexer which is ok. I’m not sold on any particular editing system I just use what gives me the best results for what I’m doing at the moment.

3. What is your process for taking pictures?

If it is for a product I’m shooting it’s just simply somewhere in my home, however I do plan on changing up and adding more pictures this year.

4. When it comes to backdrops for your photos what do you consider? Does location count or shoot the same spot daily?

I really don't take a lot of pictures however when doing so it depends on the product or where I'm at at the time.

5. If you could splurge and get one new piece of equipment what would you be buying?

Without question an ipad, since you can get your magazine subscriptions sent directly to your ipad in such vivid color, I can only imagine all the editing you could do. I think it would be an amazing edition to any bloggers tech collection.

If you're a blogger and would like to participate in Friend Friday head on over to Modly Chic Katy will fill you in on all the details.TGIF! Have a safe and stylish weekend catch you back here Monday.

Get Nailed

I have fallen in love again, but this time it's with a nail polish brand by the name of Essie. I have heard about them for some time now but never really took the time to check them out personally until recently and ladies, the colors and the polish quality is awesome and for $7-10 bucks not bad on the wallet either. I have this thing with my own nails and I like them short squared with rounded corners, which just happens to be the latest trend in nails right now. I know we all love having our mani-pedi's but sometimes with our busy schedules and other engagements it can be a task getting in for that nail appointment so to tide you over in between nail appointments here is a little inspiration for you to take care of those nails at home and save a little money in the process. ***Essie products can be found in various salons and shops also in select retailers such as Target, Ulta and I recently spotted in Wal-Mart, yes.....Wal-Mart. Pick yourself up a bottle today and let me know what you think.

Simple at home manicure:

1. Remove any old nail polish.

2. Shape the nail, using a file or emery board. File each nail tip from corner to center; do not file in a see-saw motion with the emery board because doing so can cause ridges in the nail and nail splitting. By filing nails to a point...this will make nails weak. A rounded or square form is the strongest.

3. Soak the hands in warm, soapy water for a few minutes to remove dirt. This will also soften cuticles and make it easier to push cuticles back. Clean under free edge of nail with orangewood stick.

4. The cuticle is the skin that grows from the finger onto the base of the nail (nail root). Push the cuticle gently back. Leaving the cuticle intact helps to prevent infection of the nail growing tissue. NEVER cut cuticles! This can cause the nail to die if done improperly

5. Apply a base coat. Allow to dry for a minute or two. Next apply 2 coats of favorite polish. Then finish with a shine sealer. Allow nails to fully dry for at least an hour.

6. Finally, apply a moisturizing cream or lotion to the hands and cuticles.

Take a look and get inspired from some of these great Essie looks.

What's your favorite nail product or brand? leave me a comment I'd love to know.

Tea Time Tuesday: Wipe on Wipe off!

N mug

Flavor of the day: Peach Tea on ice

I am so excited about this post and to tell you the truth, I'm not so sure why I'm so excited but lets put it this way, anytime I can save money on something, I mean really and the product works, I'm happy. This product is actually something my husband put in my Christmas stocking last year and I'm so glad he did because it's one of those things you don't think you need until you have them and to your surprise they work. What is all the fuss about? you're wondering, well it's simply Makeup Remover Wipes. Now hold up, hang on to your seat they can be found.... drum roll please at the Dollar Tree that's right the Dollar Tree. They are formulated with aloe Vera & vitamins E & B5 and are alcohol free. I can not tell you how many face cloths I have destroyed and ruined taking off my makeup, but with these you simply pull one out take off your makeup and toss in the trash when done, then use your face cloth to complete (without staining and ruining your towels). They also work great to keep in the car for the kids or  when you're having lunch on the run and need to tidy up and for this price $1.00 a girl can certainly stock up and you know how we love that. So tell me what's your favorite beauty find from the Dollar Tree I'd love to know?

Tea Time Tuesday: Le Gay Paris Decor

N mug     Flavor of the day: Lipton Citrus Blend

It is my absolute desire to go to Paris and it's definitely number one on my list for places to go. I mean I've hinted about Paris to my husband so much I'm sure he even wants to go by now. I love the chic style of the city, even the pictures I've seen automatically wisp me away. I thought since I can't go to Paris just yet, why not create the atmosphere of the city I love so much in my bedroom. I  started by applying this Tiffany blue paint to my walls and I accented with black throw pillows. It's still a work in progress as I am still in search of the perfect Paris pictures for the walls. What have you done to incorporate your favorite place or things into your home. Let the things you love inspire you to add a touch of flair to your personal space.

Have you done something extraordinary to your space or thinking about it? If so let me know I'd love to here all about it.

Happy New You! Empowerment Monday

                                                       empowerment

Whoa! I made it to 2011 and I am so excited about this year. Last year came and went so fast it seems like a blur. I am so looking forward to this new year and I'm sure you're feeling the same, as we start the new year off with our yearly goals and resolutions, I wanted to give you a little something to Empower you as you plow into 2011. I spent a lot of time this holiday season listening to friends and family and in some cases strangers, and what I discovered is that most of them were tired and just beat down with busy schedules, deadlines, families, meetings, jobs and obligations. It seemed they rarely had time for themselves and when they did manage a free moment all they wanted to do was sleep. This got me thinking we really must take time to make time for ourselves and what better time to start than now. For the entire month of January every Monday you will find Empowerment tips to help you stay focused and motivated this year. It's time you put yourself first and be just a little selfish this year relax a little, take some time to do what you enjoy just for you. Here are a few things I thought might help you on your journey and empower you to make 2011 the best year yet.

                 1. Magic Bullet start your day with a homemade smoothie fresh fruit with a little protein just what you need to kick start your day.

2/3. Bath and Bodyworks Aromatherapy Get your relaxation on this year by getting more quiet time, shut the door and take a long shower or bath and then lather on these

great Stress Relief products in Eucalyptus Spearmint.

       4. Journal what better way to Empower yourself than writing down your goals and seeing them on paper. Pick up a journal and start writing some things down you may be

surprised at what you find and how empowering journaling can be.

       5. Colin Stuart Fringe Back-tie Bootie Nothing Empowers like a nice pair of shoes and baby these sexy booties from Colin Stuart for Victoria Secret will definitely

Tea Time Tuesday

N mug

Okay, I'm back in action and ready to roll, I know I've been away for a minute but I'm also an event planner with a large baby shower coming up very soon and it's really been taking all of my extra time and I do mean all (will keep you posted on that in the upcoming months) but nevertheless I'm over due for a post and Friday couldn't be a better place to start. Remember when I told you about my obsession with the TAG Heuer  Formula 1 watch, well I still don't have it but thanks to my husband I have a great stylish substitute, it's by Anne Klein and I love it, it's stylish and fabulous and it was a fraction of the cost weighing in at $395 (ooooh yeah!). So I think I can scratch the Tag formula 1 watch off my wish list, thanks to my wonderful husband.

Tea Time Tuesday: e.l.f

N mug

No tea today but coffee with hazelnut creamer.

I confess I've been slacking on my post but a girl has been quite busy lately nevertheless I'm going to do better, I promise. Now on with this weeks Tea Time Tuesday post, by now I'm sure you've all heard about e.l.f the cosmetics company that sells great products for very, very reasonable prices I'm talking items as low as $1.00 I mean really, what can you buy for a buck these days? e.l.f has tons of items from cosmetics, bath products to make up tools that will help you with all of your beauty needs. Now, I must admit when I first heard of them and their low prices I was a bit skeptical about their product quality but they have made a believer out of me. I'm so in love with their eye primer this stuff really, really works it's sheer and you apply it over your eye area let dry then apply your eye shadow it helps with the creasing and fading of your eye shadows. I wore it the past Sunday and I embarrassingly admit that I sweat across my forehead but this stuff held up when I made it home and looked in the mirror I was expecting my eye shadow to be a hot mess but it was as fresh as when I applied it that morning. I was really impressed I couldn't wait to share it with you. If you love eye shadow and are in need of a great primer please don't waste your money on those high end eye primers on the market instead head over to e.l.f and pick up their eye shadow primer your eyes will love it and your wallet will too, this primer sells for a crazy $3.00 this is crazy! pick up  2 or 3 because you will love it. Leave me a comment if you've tried this product or any of e.l.f products I would love to hear from you.

Your eyeshadow(s) will love you for this one!

Tea Time Tuesday: Lip Mixer

N mug

Flavor of the day: Lipton Lemon Ginseng Green Tea (yum!)

I am so excited about my recent discovery. I've known of Milani Cosmetics for at least a few years and I've tried several of their products here and there but my latest find is the jackpot I have been in search of a great looking lip gloss that gives me the right amount of shine with just the right amount of color and these Milani Lip Mixers are just what I needed. I picked up #702 Lip Mix is the name of the color and I absolutely Love It! I don't know what it is with me lately but I can't find a lipstick that I like once I decide I'm going to put on lipstick for the day when I try it on it looks way to heavy, it's like too much. I have to work on that because I've always been a lipstick type of girl. So if you are in need of a new lip gloss check out these Lip Mixers and let me know what you think.

Maybelline Showdown

The fact that it's Monday has nothing to do with this post I simply had nothing else fitting for today so I thought this would be good. I never leave home without my mascara, never! if I'm running to the store for a quick run or to the gym I always put on mascara. Even though I love the stuff I didn't think it was a big deal until I bought the Colossal mascara by Maybelline at Wal-Mart it was okay but it smudged so bad I could not stand looking like a raccoon for one more day. I returned it, yes I returned it in exchange for Falsies mascara and I'm so glad I did this stuff really works and the waterproof is just that, waterproof I Love, Love, Love it. If you are in need of mascara that gives you full long lashes, that really make your eyes "POP", and doesn't have you walking around with raccoon eyes this is for you. You will love the results and for $6.00 you can't beat it. What's you favorite/worst mascara ? I would love to know.

If you are anything like me I'm sure you have more than one make-up case to toss in your handbag. But for some reason I can't get enough of these much needed little pouches even when I call myself getting one a little larger it never seems to be big enough. Make-up cases have come a long way and are just as stylish as some of the cutest clutches. I have even seen people carry them as clutches. However you decide to use yours make sure you choose one that will best fit your need and style, No matter how cute it may be if it's not functional you won't use it. Cosmetic cases come in several sizes and every price range from your local drug store to high end designers. So go ahead pick up your mascara, lip gloss, compacts and case them up, being organized never looked so good. Tell me what are you casing your cosmetics in I would love to know.

Friend Friday: Copying in the Fashion Industry

real or fake

You know the drill it's Friday and Katy of Modly Chic, had me scratching my head on this weeks questions have you ever purchases or worn a knockoff item, it's ok I'm sure most of us have and for sure we've copied music or have seen a bootleg DVD. (yeah) This weeks questions are all about the knockoff and the copying of designer originals, Leave me a comment I want to hear you take on this.

1. Which side do you take… Copycat designs are a way for the average consumer to stay current and wear runway styles without breaking the bank OR Copycat designs take business from the designer and cheapen the value of their work. Explain.

I would have to say I am sort of in the middle and the reason why I say in the middle is because I think it is ok if you want to own a gown like celebrities wear on the red carpet for a very special event you may be attending and you're willing to pay a few hundred dollars for your outfit but not several thousand I feel this is ok. There are companies that have contracts to actually duplicate these gowns even moments after they are seen on the  red carpet so it seems to me this would be fine you are paying for it and it is not being worn for instance as a Chanel but was inspired by Chanel and the company that made it name is on the label  so I don't think there is anything wrong with that in this type of situation, but when you are flat out wearing an outfit as a designer and it's clearly a knockoff and a bad one at that, this to me is up to the individual I would rather wear a good non-designer garment that's well made than wearing an item that's not authentic but again it's up to the individual.

2. Sometimes we do things, even if they are unethical or illegal (downloading music for free, watching full movies on YouTube). Do you think it is unethical for a designer to copy a vintage piece, make it current and sell it?

I think it is unethical for someone to take every aspect of someone's work and pass it off as their own, reason being it took that person time and their creative abilities to create a piece of work in which they were inspired to create and for someone to come and take that it and pass it of as their own and benefit/profit from it, is unfair in my opinion. If you're inspired by someone's work at least pull from their original work and add your own creative touches to create something totally different, then you can truly say I was inspired by (_________) when I created this piece, vintage or not.

3. Would you buy an items that is a very well done copy of a runway garment if it fell within your budget?

I do not like Knockoffs period, I will save, beg, drops hints to my husband, do whatever before I buy a knockoff, because they usually look like they are knockoffs or have been knocked off of something when you inspect the quality. I feel it is a waste of money because they typically don't last long a friend of mine has a few of those knockoff designer handbags and the straps look like thin belts, they are fraying and cracking all over the place. Not Pretty.

4. According to the fashion laws, at least in the US, apparel design is seen as too utilitarian to qualify for copyright protection. Would you think this is detrimental to the industry or beneficial. (Check out this video on The Taxonomy of My Wardrobe to get a better idea of this concept: http://taxonomyofmywardrobe.blogspot.com/2010/08/fashion-and-copyright-laws.html)

Detrimental, no I don't feel it is simply because of a point Tom Ford bought up in the video, designers especially high end designers such as your Prada's, Donatella Versace, Michael Kors ect.. the clientele that patronize them are loyal and will always buy their brand no matter what, so they have a built in clientele market that will always support their work and purchase their product period, and these clients are who these designers cater to, the individual that is able to afford and appreciate their clothes and support their brand and this is who they target, they are not targeting that market that's quick to buy knockoffs because it looks like and original and they can afford it. Each market ,the designer market and the knockoff market both have their target audiences to support them.

5. Own up… share the things in your closet that is a knock off. You know those things you got in China Town, on the streets of New York, or where ever.

Don't own any clothing that is a knock off that I know of however ,I did have a fake Rolex years ago when in college a friend got for me in New York it lasted for about 3 months before tarnishing so bad it was pitiful. and a blue denim LV handbag it was a gift and I can't seem to part with it  for real (*side eye*)
One time when I went through my EBay phase I ordered what I thought was Be Delicious by DKNY and I paid a good price for it too, when it arrived it was in it's original box and wrapped in that clear paper as if I purchased from any cosmetics counter in the mall, so I opened what I thought was a new bottle of perfume and when I sprayed it on it leaked and ran all over the place  needless to say it was 90% water ,Yeeess! I did not know you could knockoff and copy perfume but to my surprise it can be done. So you just never know .

Bloggers if interested in participating in Friend Friday check out Modly Chic for more details.

Mr. President, I love what you've done to the place !

If you haven't heard by now President and First lady Michelle Obama recently had the oval office redone while away on vacation and what a great job their team has done. It is customary that every President gets the luxury of making over certain areas of the White House to make it feel comfy during there stay including the Oval Office. It is also safe to say that most of us get excited when we get a chance to glimpse into the lives of "famous" people especially our President, to see how they live and the interiors of their homes. The Obama's are known for their timeless style and great taste and this certainly carries over in the Oval office with it's rich brown and tan hues that spread throughout the office. My favorite part of the room hands down,  I would have to say is the rug with the famous Presidential seal in the center and completely  surrounding the rug are some of President Obama's favorite quotes by past presidents, as well as civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. this is truly the statement piece of the room the wheat, cream and blue colored rug was made and donated by the Scott Group, an American carpet manufacturer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan the quotes that surround the rug are:

  • “The Only Thing We Have to Fear is Fear Itself” – President Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • “The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Towards Justice” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • “Government of the People, By the People, For the People” – President Abraham Lincoln
  • “No Problem of Human Destiny is Beyond Human Beings” – President John F. Kennedy
  • “The Welfare of Each of Us is Dependent Fundamentally Upon the Welfare of All of Us” – President Theodore Roosevelt

Animal Magnetism

Animal print seems to be everywhere and for some of us having an entire outfit in animal print can be a bit much. Since animal prints can be a bit overwhelming why not try adding a few pieces into your wardrobe to gradually get you use to the idea. There are a lot of great shoes out this season that have tastefully incorporated the animal print concept Nine West has done a great job with there animal print collection and I'm sure there are countless others out there  waiting to be discovered. If you're the type who is not big on such drastic prints try small options like maybe a cell phone case or coffee mug, or try what I love to do, buy a scarf in animal print and tie it on the side of your handbag this adds instant chic and makes  a nice statement. I'm looking this fall to make my animal print statement  in shoes and a nice scarf to add to the side of my handbag(s). Take a look at a few things I put together to give you a few ideas on how you can add some animal magic to your style, hope you are inspired and remember just a little bit of animal print goes along way. Let me know how you get your animal print on!

Friend Friday: Fall Fashion

It’s that time again yeeah! It’s Friday and you know what happens on Friday I answer question sent out by Katy of  Modly Chic on various topics it’s a way for bloggers to share and get to know each other all at the same time. This weeks questions are pertaining to fall fashion can you believe it?Fall will soon be here. Have you started thinking about your fall wardrobe yet ?

1. What new fashion trend are you looking forward to sporting this fall?

I’ve never been big on belts, however the fashion trends this year have show cased a lot of belts along with cardigan type sweaters and twin sets thinking on giving this look a try.

2. Which item in your closet is most likely to be your go-to transition piece?

I have to say my fitted denim jacket, I dress it up by maybe adding a huge flower pin, a scarf, I also pair it with pants, dresses, you name it my denim jacket has severe frequent flyer miles, I use it for everything it’s classic and never goes out of style.

3. What item from last year are you looking forward to reinventing this fall?

I have this green and tweed page boy style hat/cap It was an impulse buy that I ended up loving, looking forward to see what I can pair it with this fall for some great looks.

4. What is your favorite part about this time of the year?

Since I live in Florida first and foremost I would have to say the cooler temperatures (I hate the heat) really in my opinion we don’t have a lot of really cold days, it will be cold in the mornings but around noon you are taking off clothing, at least I am. Fashion wise I love, love, love boots so I’d have to say being able to incorporate more boots into my wardrobe.

5. Will you be attending any fashion events this fall?

I don’t have any scheduled in my planner as of yet, however I am always on the look out for fashion shows/events. Last year I was invited to attend a fall fashion show but do to other obligations I was un able to attend if I’m given the same opportunity this year trust me I will be there camera in hand.
