Tea Time Tuesday: Get Ready for Spring

N mug[4]

I know spring does not officially start until March 20th but if you're anything like me you are so ready for it.  To get you in the mood and prepared for spring  take a look and these colors for spring 2011.

pantones2011

These are the colors from Pantone which selects the colors for the season in the fashion industry. I  think this color palette is great, color is everywhere this spring, take a good look at this color chart , so you can select your accessories and other fashion items accordingly. I like to add color via accessories such as bold clutch/handbag, big bold ring, huge flower brooch or haute shoes  these always make me happy as well as keep me stylish.  So go ahead go through that closet an assess what you already have and add that pop of color to take your look from ordinary to extraordinary this spring. Take an inspiring look at a few looks straight from New York Fashion Week , and as you can see it's all about color.

                  1. On the Nothing Ordinary Style must have list for spring/summer are these hot sandals  from Newport News  you have to add these to your collection. So tell me what do you think about this Springs colors and how will you play them in your style?

leahss
Boy, the weekends sure seem to pass quickly and I am not a huge fan of Monday's I'm working on it but not quite there yet.  This weekend was busy my 5 yr old daughter had her first sleepover and if you can imagine five full of energy, giggling and screaming little girls I'm sure you can imagine how it went but all in all my daughter was so happy and my hubby was too, he was their entertainment *side eye* I think he had too much fun. To start the week off I wanted to show you my latest obsession this Michael Kors Hamilton Bag. Love it!  and it has made it's way on my notoriously long want list. Now tell me what do you think about this bag?

Friend Friday:Body Image

Happy Friday  y'all this week's Friend Friday questions are about body image, this is a really touchy subject but  Katy from Modly Chic has made it fairly easy with this weeks questions.
aisha29
1. Since you started blogging has your image of yourself changed?
Yes, I am definitely more aware of how I look at all times  not to the point that I'm obsessive but I really pay attention to what I'm wearing and I take more time when I shop.

2. Are you self-conscious about any aspect of yourself? If so, do you
go out of your way to avoid it or do you post it/talk about it anyway?
Yes , I think most people are a bit self conscious about of certain things concerning their bodies and I'm certainly no exception. I don't think I go out of my way since I've never really done any personal photograph shots but

3. Based on how you are feeling now, what do you think the future
holds in the evolution of your body image?
Tone up and trim down , I've always been active and worked out in some form, but this year I plan on working more in the gym and with a trainer.

4. Do you photograph yourself for your blog? If so, how do you feel
about the experience when you're having your picture taken? If you
choose not to post pictures of yourself, what prompted that decision?
No, not at this time but I will be posting pictures this year.

5. What would you want every person who struggles with body image to
take to heart?
That real beauty comes from within, you are more than the label in the back of your clothes or a number on the scale and you must know your worth no one can give that to you, you must now it for yourself find out what make you happy or what it is you need to be happy and go after it.
To participate in the Friend Friday question head on over to Modly Chic for all of the details.

Friend Friday: Color Wars

color wars 1

I don't know about you guys but really where has this week gone, anyways I'm ready for the weekend. Before I go off into weekend mode Katy of Modly Chic has a colorful set of questions (I know that was corny but anyway it's Friday) she's left on the table for the FBFF crew it's about color and how we  go about adding it into our wardrobe as well as implementing pattern mixing here's what I had to say about this very colorful subject, sorry I couldn't help it.

1. What color dominates your closet?

I’d have to say darker colors such as black, browns, green I do have other colors but I’d have to say these colors dominate.

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?

I don’t know if I would change it so much per say but there are several designer pieces I would love to add to my wardrobe like EMILIO PUCCI and Burberry I simply love their play on color and pattern mixing especially Emilio Pucci….. someday these items will grace my closet. (smile)

3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?

I really don’t have one. Work in progress on this one.

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?

For years I’ve played it pretty safe by sticking pretty much wearing items within the same color family, but as of late I've been purposely mixing color and using different accessories to tie them together.

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?

I’d have to say Dana @ The Art of Accessories she’s not afraid of color and it exudes in her photos, her color choices always compliment her sense of style and also Katy @ Modly Chic she also uses vibrant colors and pattern mixing to add punch to her style which is inspiring to see. I’ve just recently started reading through various blogs daily so I’m sure this list will grow there’s just so many awesome blogs out there and not enough time it seems to read them all.

If you're a blogger or know a blogger and you would lobe to be apart of this awesome Friend Friday group, head over to Modly Chic Katy will fill you in on all the details. Have a colorful weekend, there I go again couldn't help it. Lol!

Activist with Style: Coretta Scott King

black-history-month2
This is the second week in my month long series of Style Icon's in honor of Black History Month and this week's icon is none other than Coretta Scott King, the beautiful wife of Civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.
Young Coretta Scott's gift for music and enthusiasm for education led her far beyond the segregated world of her childhood, but when she met the young Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the two resolved to return to the Deep South together and pursue the cause of justice in her own home state of Alabama. The Montgomery bus boycott thrust the young couple to the forefront of a revitalized civil rights movement, even as it exposed their growing family to the retaliation of those who opposed any change in the old system.
Braving death threats and surviving the bombing of their home by white supremacists, Coretta Scott King stood by the cause and her husband, from the Birmingham jail to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, from the March on Washington, to a stage in Oslo, Norway where he accepted the Nobel Prize for Peace. After his assassination, she inspired the world with her courage, dignity and tireless devotion to preserving Dr. King's legacy.
As founding President, Chair, and Chief Executive Officer of The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, she saw that tens of thousands of activists from all over the world were trained in the philosophy and practice of nonviolence. She has served as an advisor to freedom and democracy movements all over the world, and as a consultant to world leaders including President Corazon Aquino of the Philippines, President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, and President Nelson Mandela of South Africa. One of the world's most admired women, she remained an outspoken champion of justice and human dignity to the end of her days.   *Information from www.achievement.org**
Style Tip: To pull off the classic look of Coretta Scott King a girl needs one essential element and what might that be? a red lip and for the perfect red mouth her are a few to add to your shopping list M.A.C lipstick in Mac Red $14.50 0r try Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick *Limited Edition in  Fire & Ice around $14.00.

Friend Friday: Express yourself by being yourself!

unique1  TGIF! boy this week really went by fast, I have been glued to my laptop all week and it seems as if this week has been one big blur    nevertheless it's Friday yaaay! and this week Katy over at Modly Chic has a very interesting set of questions in store for us. It's about uniqueness how we as bloggers choose what we are going to present on our blogs as well as what we want to partake in and be apart of in this vast blogging community. This should be pretty interesting.

  1. With all the blogging events out there how do you determine which ones to participate in and which ones to avoid?

I think you have to do your homework by investigating the company hosting the event and checking out their credentials, and based on your findings determine if you want to participate.

2. Be honest, have you ever jumped on the bandwagon of some blogging movement/event for the wrong reasons? How did that turn out?

No, I try to stay true to myself and only participate in things I’m genuinely interested in and can relate to.

3. How do you give your own flair to a blog event while still maintaining the general mission and purpose?

By only participating in something I’m passionate about. If I’m not interested I don’t participate but I will support if one of the bloggers happen to be one that I read, I will leave comments

4. When determining the best content for your blog what criterion do you keep in mind?

Is it something I‘m passionate about and does it move me in anyway, does it inspire me or fit into my life and lastly is it something my readers could relate to or be interested in. Anything I put on my blog has to be something I like or have a interest in.

5. While everything will not suit your blog, how do you try and support your fellow bloggers who are participating in something worthwhile but not your style?

By commenting on what other bloggers are doing and possibly depending on what they are doing referencing it in my blog and including a link to theirs.

I can only be good if I'm true to myself I'm building my blog on me that's what separates my blog from the next, the uniqueness of the blogger and their individual style.

What's your take on this subject? Leave a comment I'd like to know.

Confidence the best Accessory

michelle-obama-in-purple-682x1024   michelle_obama_0 Lately I've been noticing or so it seems woman are loosing their confidence, just the other day I was having a talk with my mom and in the undertones of her voice I heard a bit of uncertainty, a bit of doubt as to some things she had on her list to do, another instance was a friend who is constantly selling herself short. This sparked me to thinking, to dig deeper today than usual and post something to inspire, encourage and uplift. It is so easy to get caught up in our day to day lives with, meetings, schedules, shopping, errands you name it, until we put ourselves on the back burner not intentionally I might add, but because we will get to us later and this can at times effect our style, our appearance even our state of mind and we begin to lose our confidence. When I think of confidence one person pops in my mind and that's our first lady Michelle Obama, her sense of style the way she stands, her simplistic elegance quietly demands your attention, so take notes from Michelle and get your confidence back baby! take the time to put that outfit together, accessorize and make it work with what you have in the closet, because you're worth it diamonds maybe forever but a woman with confidence will be remembered for a lifetime.

Things you need to add to your confidence collection: Anything pearl, pearl necklace, pearl ring or brooch.

Do you own a certain item that gives you instant confidence? If so tell me about.

Style Icon: Zelda Wynn Valdes

 black-history-month2

In honor of Black History Month every Wednesday during the month of February I will be honoring someone extraordinarily stylish who has played a major roll impacting not only black history but American history, and to get the ball rolling lets go back in time and start with Zelda Wynn Valdes, a fashion and costume designer whom outfitted such beauties as Dorothy Dandridge, Marian Anderson, Ella Fitzgerald, and Gladys Knight. Valdes was also the owner of the first Black business on Broadway in NYC back in the 1940′s. She got her start by making patterns out of newsprint, studying her grandmother’s seamstress, and working in her uncle’s tailoring shop. Pretty soon, Zelda’s work was catching all the right eyes including Hollywood and even Hugh Hefner. Did you know Zelda designed the first Playboy Bunny uniforms? She also designed the uniforms for the Dance Theater of Harlem. And she created the National Association of Fashion and Accessory Designers. We honor Zelda Wynn Valdes for her great work in the fashion industry.    **Info on Zelda Wynn Valdes courtesy of Sparkleshock.com**
